A journey to the Land of Kings -PART 14: Gadisar Lake, Jaisalmer

 Gadisar Lake

We were taken to our next destination- Gadisar lake. This is a manmade reservoir originally built by Maharawal Jaisal by 1156, and expanded by Maharawal Gadsi Singh in the 14th century. On the way to the lake there were many street vendors selling souvenirs, clothes, purses, and accessories. The lasting construction and craftsmanship truly amazed me. We walked around observing the shops and people.

The gateway to the lake was Tilon-ki-Pol. On the banks of lake small shrines, chhatris , and pavilions made of yellow sandstone were there. The ideal time to visit is actually during sunrise or sunset, when these structures will shine a golden yellow and are reflected beautifully in the lake. We saw some natives fishing in the lake; my hubby was interested in observing their method of fishing. Boating service was available, but we opted out. We walked along the banks, clicked some photos.

On the way back we did some small scale gift shopping. We also observed some areas with props and costumes for tourist photoshoot. It was very lively there. By the time we finished our tour of the place, it was lunchtime.
